Head of School Admissions

I am urgently seeking an interim Head of Admissions & Awards for a London Borough. The postholder manages three teams, two dealing with admissions to schools and the third supporting children once in school through awards such as Free School Meals.

The postholder is responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Admissions & Awards services are effectively and efficiently discharged, including the management of the 3 teams, budgetary management, compliance with all statutory requirements including pre-set national deadlines, as well as initiating and project managing all initiatives to maintain and improve the service delivery.

Within this remit, there are risks to:

- The provision of high level advice to all stakeholders.
- Effective statutory consultation on the Council's admission arrangements, ensuring the Council discharges its statutory obligations.
- The monitoring of own admitting authority bodies to ensure compliance with the national schools admission code.
- Appropriate sourcing and use of legal advice.
- Appropriate referrals to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator or Department for Education where there is legislative non-compliance.
- The utilisation and development of complex and highly specialised software to achieve the desired outcomes and new business solutions.
- The training and preparedness in all aspects of admissions legislation and local policies for the Authority's representatives at statutory admissions appeals.
