Head of Planning

Our client, working within the public sector, is looking to recruit a Head of Planning on an initial 12 month contract paying up to £455 per day Ltd rate Dependent on experience.

Description of Role

*Define and implement an effective approach to managing the plans for the Futures Programme, which ensures the Programme retains key control over the critical elements of delivery, while allowing individual Project Managers day-to-day responsibility for planning and undertaking work.

*Embed planning activities across the Futures Programme, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

*Develop, maintain and analyse key Futures Programme planning artefacts (eg Planning Standards, MS Project plan, Critical Path, presentational Plan on a Page).

*Assess the impact of changes to the Plan, modelling scenarios to enable informed and timely decision making. Prepare change requests for approval of changes to any baselined plan artefacts.

*Identify Programme dependencies, delivery risks and issues, ensuring that these are logged and actively managed.

*Prepare regular progress and variance reporting against the Futures Programme plan; providing advice accordingly to the Futures Programme Manager and governance bodies.

Essential Skills, Competencies, Experience and Relevant Qualifications

*Previous experience of planning and dependency management in a complex programme environment
*Advanced MS Project and Visio skills
*Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
*Demonstrate experience in promoting collaborative working, building networks and responding creatively to challenges
*Skilled in adapting to changing circumstances and expectations and comfortable working in a complex, fast moving environment

Desirable Skills

*Prince 2 and Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner
*Resource analysis and delivery planning
*Working with a range of delivery organisations to deliver integrated planning
*Experience of working in a regulatory environment
