About the Head of Information Technology Operations role:

The European Medicines Agency(EMA), London, is looking to recruit a Head of IT Operations Department, who will be responsible for the management of approximately 70 people.
You will be responsible for setting new standards of professionalism within the IT Operations domain and for providing dynamic leadership to underpin current and future service requirements.

About the Head of Information Technology Operations person:

The EMA vision is to become a recognised reference authority for medicines in Europe, and the IT challenge is to be the technological partner supporting EMA in achieving this.

This is a leadership position that will require highly developed communication skills and an extensive career in IT Operations.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of IT Division, and will be responsible for all IT Operations services including systems administration, database administration, middleware, security, disaster recovery, quality control and testing, IT service desk, audio-visual systems and unified communications.

Your challenges

IT Operations is a critical enabler of the move of the complete EMA to new premises by mid-2014. This will also involve building a brand new datacentre, including the configuration of hardware, software and telecommunications equipment, whilst ensuring that production prevails even during the move.
After that, the next steps will be around managing the transition of our IT equipment and ensuring continuity of service, whilst the new datacentre goes through a stabilisation phase.

In the medium term, IT Operations is to initiate a set of improvement activities to ensure IT performance reaches its full potential, operating within the ITIL framework for service management: this will involve the continuous review of current processes and the implementation of new practices for service request management, change management, service level management, etc.

In order to apply the Head of Information Technology Operations must have:

• A university degree, in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering
• at least 12 years' professional IT and business experience, including five years IT Operations experience of leadership and management of multiple, cross-functional teams or projects
• advanced technical and proven experience in implementing and using ITIL for IT service management or implementing COBIT as a standard
• advanced technical and business knowledge in data centre and IT Operations management, quality assurance, project management and other related processes
• A good command of English and a thorough knowledge of another official language of the European Union.

Additionally, you must have: the ability to develop and lead large teams, strategic decision-making skills and possess strong commercial awareness to deal with IT suppliers at senior level.
You should be a national of a European Union (EU) Member State or of Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.
