HEAD OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Location: Inner London, Great Minister House, SW1P 4DR
CONTRACT LENGTH: 90 working days
Clearance Level Required: BPSS Cleared with DS

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
o 5-8 years solid experience of operating successfully in a similar senior communications role
o Ability to manage team and relationship building (internal & external), ability to influence

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Directing the creative function so that the strategic goals are met and that a high quality of creative production is upheld. Delivering strategic communication solutions that help the department attain their marketing and communications objectives. Leading the creative team with all elements of design solution. Overseeing projects through digital mediums eg E-commerce, brochures and email campaigns. Overall responsibility for ensuring timescales and budgets are adhered to. Managing multiple projects across the team, meeting the responsibility that comes with the ongoing development.

JOB ROLE: Head of Internal Communications
To lead a confident, professional team to develop and deliver an internal comms and engagement strategy that helps DfT to achieve its aim of creating a motivated organisation where people are proud to work.
To ensure resources are resilient and flexible to cover emerging demands across the departmental priorities.
Create a strategic approach to delivering internal messages which reduces the clutter of communication and helps staff to focus on the core DfT messages and achievements
Develop campaigns using best practice techniques and ensure delivery in a timely manner in close collaboration with colleagues
Provide professional communications advice to the Perm Sec and senior policy and communications colleagues
Support senior leaders in communicating a clear vision and direction through proactive engagement with employees which includes listening to and acting on employee feedback
Identify new ways to engage and inform staff ensuring our comms is at the forefront of emerging developments
Create consistent metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of our communications and engagement
Constructively challenge the organisation where there is a disconnect between the messages cascaded by senior managers and how these are being received by employees
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and with communication colleagues particularly strategic communications, press office and the campaigns team
Line manage 3 x direct reports ensuring personal development plans are developed and followed

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED It is essential that the individual has proven experience of operating successfully in a senior communications role.
