Our client has a requirement for a permanent HEAD OF ENGINEERING - MEDICAL & SCIENCE to work in the location of Essex. You will be required to hold a SC clearance for this role.Job description

Our client is currently looking for a head of Engineering for our Medical and Science division. The person undertaking this role will be a member of the leadership team of a major division - RF Power Solutions and as part of this team, the Head of Engineering will have a significant contribution to make to the delivery of strategic growth plans. The Engineering team will consist of a multidisciplinary team of application specialists, design and development engineers whose work will be aligned to the Industrial Processing Systems and Medicalbusiness development and senior project teams, the Head of Engineering will provide the engineering resources with appropriate skills to support systems developments and technical support to customers.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develop a flexible and capable development team adopting best practise systems designrecruitment, training and re-training.

Develop strategies to accelerate product development and delivery through appropriate and effective outsourcing or contracting of development work in collaboration with other engineering managers, supply chain and HR.

Drive a culture of innovation within the Engineering team, combined with strong commercial awareness. This to generate new products and IP with unique selling points to meet customer demand and internal stakeholder expectations.

Develop the capability of the team through building a framework of coaching and mentoring within the team to understand and close skills gaps
-

Support the Business Development team through strong applications engineering and understanding of both our client and competitors capabilities.

Manage the team to provide robust technical, resource and material cost information to support project preparation and commercial bid processes. This to win new business with manageable technical risk and adherence to development project schedules and budget cost.

Develop and drive an effective Systems Engineering discipline to ensure the success of large systems development programmes within IPS, Medicalon time, to cost and with the agreed deliverables according the product development process (CP11-1-1)

Selection of the appropriate components and materials in new product design to ensure optimum trade off between performance, availability (obsolescence

Broad awareness of the relevant domain technologies which include:

Electronic Systems: HV power supply design, electronics.

Embedded hardware/software.

Test and Applications: performance evaluation of products, validation against specification or test plan requirements

Microwave and Electron Dynamics Design: design and analysis of microwave components and systems

Vacuum Tube Engineering

Broad level of commercial awareness
