Hadoop Big Data Administrator - English Speaking Contract in Zurich

OVERVIEW OF BUSINESS AREA OR PROJECT:
A leading global bank requires an experienced Linux/Unix administrator with experience in open source BIG DATAtechnologies to join their project team, to help deliver, maintain and support their growing strategic platform. The platform serves multiple areas of the bank, including some very exciting and cutting-edge projects with board-level sponsorship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operation and administration of big data platform (~60 Servers)
- Integration and evaluation of new big data and data science technologies
- Integration and maintenance of security controls and platform tooling
- Consultation to application groups on how best to utilise the platform and technologies
- Engagement with groups for PoCs and full project on-boarding
CHALLENGES CONTRACTOR WILL BE FACING IN THIS ROLE:
- The platform and its hosted projects are very high profile with board-level sponsorship
- The data hosted in this environment is sensitive and security awareness is paramount
ESSENTIALS SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- EXPERIENCE MANAGING HADOOP CLUSTERS, IDEALLY CDH 5+ (eg HDFS, YARN, Spark, HBase, Cloudera Manager)
- Strong understanding of hardware, network & security issues inherent to distributed/clustered systems
- A strong sense of ownership and initiative
- Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking ability
- Strong experience in Linux/Unix administration, ideally RHEL 6.5+ in a mixed Windows/Linux environment
- Good spoken English
NICE TO HAVE:
- Good understanding of Active Directory & Kerberos integration
- Experience supporting multi-tenant/multi-project environments
- Experience with open source monitoring, configuration and deployment tools (eg Nagios, Graphite/Grafana, SaltStack)
- Strong Scripting skills (eg bash, Python) and ideally some experience with SQL
- Exposure to Python data science ecosystem, eg Jupyter
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
- Finance and banking knowledge is not required but would be beneficial.
