Position Description:
SunGard Financial Systems provides mission-critical software and IT services to institutions in virtually every segment of the financial services industry. The primary purpose of these systems is to automate the many detailed processes associated with trading, managing investment portfolios and accounting for investment assets. These solutions address the processing requirements of a broad range of users within financial services, including asset managers, traders, custodians, compliance officers, treasurers, insurers, risk managers, hedge fund managers, plan administrators and clearing agents. In addition, we also provide professional services that focus on application implementation and integration of these solutions and on custom software development.
The General Ledger Accountant will be based in London, reporting to the Finance Manager.

The role is responsible for ensuring that SunGard's business units and legal entities are compliant with internal and external reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner, with particular focus on business Unit and US GAAP reporting.

The London Finance Shared Service Centre provides integral support to SunGard EMEA business units and legal entities for Back Office accounting. With 80 staff working across 90 different legal entities, the team provide expertise in billing, cash collections, accounts payable, general ledger, statutory and tax filings.

Responsibilities

Preparation of accounts, submission of financial statements and reporting schedules for monthly, quarterly and annual corporate deadlines
Preparation and maintenance of month end files, including the monthly balance sheet reconciliations, working with other SSC colleagues to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial statements and associated documentation
Compliance with all relevant corporate finance policies, accounting standards and SOX controls
Providing finance support to business unit finance teams
Liaising across the business to resolve queries and reconciling items
Undertake other ad hoc duties as required and additional tasks as the department develops.

Position Requirements:
Essential Skills
Part Qualified/Qualified Accountant
Hands on accounting experience, ideally in a Matrix organisation and multi-currency environment
Previously experience of working in a shared service centre
Technical accounting ability
Intermediate Excel skills
SUN experience preferred
Able to meet tight deadlines
Good verbal and written communication skills

This role is being offered on a 12 month fixed term contract basis to cover maternity.
