FPGA/FIRMWARE ENGINEER

A FPGA/Firmware Engineer with VHDL, Xilinx, Altera and Actel experience is required to work on a ten month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Edinburgh.

This is a 10 month contract working for a UK leading defence client.

OVERVIEW OF THE FPGA/FIRMWARE ENGINEER CONTRACT ROLE

A contract FPGA/Firmware engineer, experienced at senior engineer level in VHDL based design & verification techniques, is required to work on FPGA/Firmware for an airborne application. The candidate is expected to have hands on experience of developing complex FPGA/Firmware designs, over the complete design and development life cycle, working to structured firmware design process.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE FPGA/FIRMWARE ENGINEER

- The successful candidate will work on design and development of FPGA/Firmware for an airborne application, using VHDL based design & verification techniques, working to structured firmware design process.
- Experience of current FPGA technology from Xilinx, Altera and/or Actel.
- Experience of VHDL based FPGA design and verification techniques.
- Ability to analyse system level documents and derive detailed FPGA/Firmware requirements
- Specification of complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
- Experience of de-bugging and testing new firmware designs and supporting module and system related test, verification and integration project phases as required by a development type programme prior to system deliveries.
- Methodical and thorough approach to FPGA/Firmware design, ideally working to a structured FPGA/firmware process such as RTCA DO-254 or similar.
- Ability to communicate effectively across different disciplines both verbally and in written form.
- Ability to work on own or as part of a team to resolve technical issues.
- Self-motivated.
- The candidate must be familiar with current industry standard ECAD tools used for FPGA/Firmware design and development.
- It is desirable that the candidate has expert knowledge in Mentor Graphics HDL Designer Series, ModelSim, Precision, Xilinx ISE, Xilinx Vivado and Altera Quartus.

The role is based in Edinburgh - commutable from Dundee, Perth, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Glasgow. .
