Fluid Systems Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assemble equipment documentation packages for cryogenic equipment including piping, pumps, vessels, and heat exchangers.
- Prepare equipment specifications for cryogenic equipment piping, including pumps, vessels and heat exchangers.
- Review and update heat transfer, hydraulics, compressible flow, and line sizing calculations.
- Check engineering documents made by others.
- Research and propose creative design solutions to engineering problems.
- Review P&IDs and prepare redline markups for CAD P&ID draftsperson.

SKILLS:

QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of five years relevant engineering experience with heat and mass balances, fluid mechanics, compressible flow, heat transfer, thermal system design, pressure relief valve sizing, fluid equipment specification.
- Experience with specifying and checking valve and instrument design pressure/temperature.
- Experience and abilities in Computational Fluid dynamics with a background in modelling cryogenic fluids.
- Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform computer work for extended hours, up to 8 hours/day in a multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to meet the Laboratory's physical and educational requirements for work in Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH).
- Ability to produce and markup industry-standard P&ID drawings.
- Ability to prepare fluid equipment, heat exchanger, and pressure vessel specifications for the purpose of competitive bidding.
- Ability to review and provide constructive feedback on engineering designs, calculations, and specifications done by others.
- Knowledge of ASME process piping and pressure vessel codes.
- Personal communication skills essential, including the ability to write effectively and produce concise reports.
- Computer skills desired in Microsoft Office suite applications, Mathcad and Visio.
