Flash Action Script AS3 Developer

Serious games and simulation learning are among the fastest growing and most exciting areas in the global health care education and training sector. Birmingham City University, Faculty of Health, one of the largest providers of health and social care training in the UK, has an international reputation for excellence in these fields.

In response to growing interest in the online simulation and serious games technologies the Faculty is creating, we are seeking to expand our existing multidisciplinary by appointing a Flash AS3 developer to work alongside an existing team of 3D artists, AV technicians and software engineers.

This post will involve applying AS3, JavaScript, HTML and CSS skills to support the development of a variety of simulation and games based PC and mobile resources in support of health care training. The role provides an exciting opportunity to work within a rapidly expanding team that aims to enhance how health care students learn and as a consequence the care that patients receive.

The successful candidate will:

- Have significant experience of AS3 programming
- An impressive portfolio of work
- Excellent code optimization skills
- Sound understanding of OOP and class-based coding
- Good knowledge of Action Script API's and XML
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS/JavaScript

Desirable but non-essential skills include:

- SQL and web services experience
- Games experience
- HTML 5
- Objective C/Java

Simulation technologies currently supported by OSIME include; over 30 2D virtual patient simulations; 3D serious games based simulations; first person 3D simulations and collaborative virtual world simulations.

The post will be based within the new, award winning, £30 million campus in leafy Edgbaston and includes excellent annual leave and pension benefits.
