Financial Controller - Radio Communications Products

Thales UK have an exceptional opportunity available for a Financial Controller to join their Secure Communications & Information Systems business unit, specifically within the Radio Communication Products (RCP-UK) domain which specialises in land, naval and airborne communications solutions focusing on three key areas, Naval Communications, Electronic Counter Measures and Tactical Products.

Primary Purpose of the role:

The Financial Controller is responsible for supporting the business activities within the RCP domain:

o Responsible for provision and integrity of timely financial management information to allow for successful management and development of the Domain.
o Manage achievement for areas of specific responsibility and Domain targets for:
o Sales
o IFO
o Operating Cash Flow (OCF)
o Provide close advice and decision-making support to appropriate Domain director, to the necessary mutually agreed level.
o Effective review of Offers made to customers in line with the Company Delegation of Authority. Ensure financial integrity in the preparation and delivery of new Bids.Ensure Bids are delivered in line with the requirements of the Thales Reference System (Chorus 2.0)
o Effective management and development of Finance staff reporting into this role.
o Quality Assurance of Finance data, systems and processes.
o Ensuring effective Finance contributions to transverse action plans.
o Identification of Financial Risks and Opportunities within the Domain

Key Tasks

o Act as business partner for the Domain lead and his management team.
o Involvement in bid process, ensuring financial integrity and adherence to process (Chorus 2.0).
o Responsibility for underwriting the Monthly financial figures for the Domain, ensuring that they are produced in a timely and accurate fashion.
o Fully support and promote the IBP process within the Domain. Ensure that this is a consistent approach across the Domain management team.
o Monthly and Ad-hoc reports are produced in a timely and accurate fashion.
o Production of both budgets and forecast for the Domain in line with corporate timetables. Ensure that these are accurate, achievable and understood by all members of the Domain management team.
o Consolidation of Domains overall position, for which the role is responsible, in a timely and accurate fashion.
o Report and manage on the Financial Risks and Opportunities affecting the Domain
o Production and maintenance of Financial Forecasts for the Domain (including scheduling and running monthly Programme Forecast reviews)
o Ensure that EAC reviews are undertaken on a regular scheduled basis. Take an active role in these reviews ensuring that the financial position on reviewed programmes are understood and risks and opportunities duly highlighted
o Ensure that financial detail is prepared and provided in line with published Accounting Standards, the Thales Accounting and Controlling Manual, ICQ and Chorus 2.0 reference system
o Liaison with both internal and external auditors for all financial aspects of the Domain

Experience Required:

o Experience of a Senior Finance role within an engineering/manufacturing background.
o Strong understanding of commercial and financial aspects of the business.
o Demonstrated ability to manage a team of Finance professionals.
o Ability to assimilate and analyse technical, financial and commercial information.
o Experience in providing financial analysis in a fast moving technical environment.
o Ability to communicate and explain the implications of complex business issues.
o Change agent, able to identify and implement change within the finance environment, and to support the change process in the Company as a whole, to improve effectiveness
o Highly proficient in Excel.
o Good working understanding of ERP systems (ideally Oracle).

Qualifications Required

Ideally educated to degree level (preferably in a finance or related discipline).

Professional accounting qualification - ideally CIMA or ACCA.
