Financial Accounting Team Leader

An exceptional opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join this shared service environment, part of the Local Government Services division of a FTSE 100. The role will include a number of tasks which will combine the need for a measured, professional approach with the opportunity to demonstrate both flair and initiative. The role includes management responsibility for service delivery and ensuring that performance meets contractual requirements. The Team Leader is responsible for the financial accounting service delivery for the clients supported from the shared services centre. This is initially a 5 month fixed term contract and there is a view to permanency.

As Financial Accounting Team Leader you will, ideally, be qualified (or nearing qualification), have good technical skills and experience of streamlining & improving systems. You should have team leadership experience and exposure to the local government sector would be advantageous.

o Management of the Financial Accounting Team

o Performance management including recruitment and selection, induction, staff appraisals, training and development

o Ensure employment policies and practices are upheld by the team through good standards of conduct

o Management of the workload and prioritising the work to meet service levels and performance indicators

o Oversee production of Statement of Accounts and supporting audit pack

o Operational oversight of technical areas such as Capital Accounting and Treasury Management

o Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations and statistical returns are accurately completed within the timescales permitted including VAT returns.

o Review and develop services with the client with a view to continuous improvement

o Development and review of the financial systems to aid continuous improvement and efficiency and effectiveness

o Reviewing and advising of the impact in legislative changes

o Ensuring systems testing is adequately completed to high standard within agreed timescales

o Any other reasonable requirements as requested by management
