Financial Accountant

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT - CONTRACT - DORSET - GREAT RATES!

Our client, a leading defence organisation has just released a new requirement for a Financial Accountant to assist in the Management of reports. The individual will interact with the Shared Services Team (Back Office function) and the Management Accounts Team. All contact will be internal.

DUTIES:

- Quarterly audit of VAT and Intrastats processes/submission.
- Feedback of audit results to each business unit Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) Preparation of the annual PAYE Settlement Agreement for HMRC for UK entities Liaison with and reporting of joint venture financial performance (AvDef etc).
- Submission of results to the client, covering actuals, forecast, annual budgets and rolling 5 year IBP Preparation of the BU balance sheets for the monthly forecasts, annual budgets and strategic plan/IBP Integral role in month end review process specifically with regard to balance sheet variance analysis and commentary.
- Ensure all procedures are fully documented and that documentation is kept current for specific areas of responsibility, fostering a continuous improvement culture.
- The continued improvement and enhancement of reporting & provide best practice to assist clear decision making.
- Attend and present at the monthly Finance meeting with the Bus on specific month end close issues and balance sheet reviews Assistance with other specific projects and ad-hoc duties as required.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:

- ACCA, CIMA or ACA Part Qualified with circa 3 years' experience.
- Strong background and experience in Financial Accounting (UK GAAP and IFRS) including knowledge of joint ventures and overseas branches.
- Ability to work unsupervised, under own initiative and take full responsibility with the drive to improve financial performance.
- Prepared to work flexibly to achieve deadlines.
- Ability to present and communicate financial information to colleagues both within and outside of Finance, including technical issues in a practical manner.
- Hands on approach to detailed reconciliation work and month end process.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Excel and good working knowledge of Word.
- Will have used the Sage Accounting package

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

- Strong background and experience in UK Corporation Tax, VAT, Intrastats and PAYE.
- Experience of a broad range of accounting/tax comp software would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of Cognos and Access Dimension Software packages.
