The role requires a fully qualified accountant or equivalent professional experience.

Job Purpose:
Act as Finance Partner to areas of the business responsibility for supporting the business in delivering initiatives to time, cost and quality. Give challenge to the prioritisation of initiatives and ensure financial benefits are realised. Support the wider function and areas of business responsibility in delivering projects and initiatives to deliver future value.

Key Tasks:

To build and develop relationships with members of the functional and Process teams in order to support business change initiatives. Act as an integrated part of the delivery of business change by providing financial insights and challenge to drive performance.

To work closely with appropriate functional management teams, acting as financial point of contact and deputising for Line Manager as required. To identify and implement value initiatives and to help the business in developing the right metrics to measure its performance.

To support the delivery of key business projects through the development of business cases, monitoring and assessing risks, and looking across the portfolio of projects to identify, profile and track opportunities and risks to support successful project delivery.

To provide robust financial acumen to support business change; ensuring that change opportunities are optimised and that data is used in a way that supports business decisions that drive value into the National Grid business.

To build a deep understanding of the business context associated with value opportunities and initiatives and to translate financial and non-financial information into value creating intelligence.

To use financial information, coupled with an understanding of RIIO price control, to evaluate, challenge and improve the outcomes of initiatives. To challenge the business on whether it is doing the right things, extracting the right value, and to hold the mirror up in areas of under performance.

To provide a commercial understanding of how contracts work and to utilise contract management skills to assist the National Grid business in implementing and managing the delivery of value from its supply chain partners.

To support the delivery of change across Finance and the business, role-modelling new ways of working and owning delivery of key outcomes to drive the improvement of long-term business capability.

To contribute to and support all key strategic and commercial decisions across the full range of business priorities and influence plans and investment appraisals for areas of business responsibility to help drive National Grid's long term performance.

Proactively build own knowledge of RIIO and its impact on the industry and the business in order to support key decisions and advise and guide own business area.
