External Reporting Accountant

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Month end journal posting, monthly analytical review and completion of controls. Initiating, leading and performing investigations to ensure that movements in the month end numbers can be explained.

2. Completing reconciliations on a monthly basis, understanding the reconciling items and working with other areas to reduce the number of reconciling items.

3. Analysing financial information in order to investigate and explain unusual trends and variances, resolution of queries/issues relating to the general ledger.

4. Undertaking further analysis work upon request and resolving queries relating to financial and statistical information supplied to others, including regulatory and trade bodies.

5. Assisting in the preparation of annual statutory accounts and relevant returns, including taking responsibility for the completion and ownership of specific tasks.

Detail any particular skills/knowledge or experience required for this role

Previous financial accounting experience required, while previous experience of working in a Life business or Financial Services role would be an advantage. In particular, it is expected that candidates for this role will have completed a significant part of training for a formal accounting qualification (eg ACA/ACCA/CIMA).

Willingness to improve understanding of the Insurance business, with a proactive and questioning approach.

Strong Excel and analytical skills with the ability to explain financial results in a clear and concise manner.

Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure both in isolation and with other teams.

Ability to plan and prioritise own work.

Strong team player and willingness to help others within the team.

Prepared to take responsibility for specific tasks, own them and ensure that they are completed on time, informing appropriate people of issues as they arise.

Ability to operate in a change environment during a LBG wide Finance team restructure.
