Exploration Geologist

My client, who is a leading Operator has a requirement for an Exploration Geologist to join their team in Aberdeen. Working within a cross discipline exploration team the exploration geologist will be responsible for technical evaluation of geological aspects of play trends (both traditional oil and gas as well as natural gas from shale) to enable identification and maturation of exploration and appraisal well targets.

Key Job Responsibilities for these positions:

- Provides technical evaluation of geological aspects of play trends (both traditional oil and gas as well as natural gas from shale) to enable identification and maturation of exploration and appraisal well targets.
- As part of a cross-disciplinary team help to integrate geological and engineering data to support technical discussions on the play evaluation, well planning and execution.
- Takes a lead role in defining subsurface value based well objectives
- Defines and coordinates post-well studies to assess the success or failure of the drilling campaign.
- This will include integration of special core analysis and wireline log data as well as seismic interpretation. Communicates these finding to stakeholders.
- Represents the team in technical meetings with partners, peer reviews (including Exploration Risk Team meetings) and with management as required to support decision making.
- Provides work direction and mentoring to less experienced Earth Scientists
- Assist regional geology team members with integrating well results into the regional understanding.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

The exploration geologist should be able to work on Coal Bed Methane, oil and natural gas from shale and tight reservoirs as well as conventional plays.

- The successful candidate will likely have the following skills and experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, likely supported with a Masters Degree in a similar field
- Significant experience in petroleum geology, particularly in the identification and maturation of exploration and appraisal well targets.
- Strong background in all aspects of Earth Science and related functions such as seismic interpretation, well logging and formation evaluation
- Experience in computer-based mapping tools is essential, with exposure to tools such as Gocad or Petrel, EPOS interpretation tools and Geolog being advantageous
- Excellent communication skills, with articulation of concepts, listening, presentation and report writing being key abilities
