Estimator

Role Overview

The role holder is responsible for the compilation and delivery of Client Delivery estimates (£5K - £5M) to the Head of Estimating for approval and onward submission to Project Managers/Bid Managers to issue to customers.

The role holder will contribute to the definition, documentation and implementation of estimating processes as well as estimating methodologies that all estimates will be delivered against.
The role holder will undertake the collation, documentation and continuous review of standard costs for defined services to be provided by the client, benchmarking against industry standards.

The focus of the review of these costs will be to ensure that estimates/projects continue to meet the clients Services cost/margin targets as well as to demonstrate value for money to the customer.

The role holder will operate within the Centre of Technical Expertise and will liaise with Design Engineers, Design & Development Managers and Project Engineers in order to define requirements and offerings and assisting in the development of the estimate of costs associated with them.

The current service/product offerings are Perimeter and Protective Security, IT and Secure Construction/Building Services Fit Out.

Role Responsibilities

Financial & Commercial Performance
* Responsible for the delivery of estimates
* Responsible for the review of estimates by design engineers to ensure they are accurate and accord with the standards and processes and cost/margin targets
* Contribute to the development of estimating systems, processes and standards
* Undertake research and establishment of component/standard costs for services/products within the group for use in estimating

Measures:
* Estimates are produced within defined and agreed timescales
* Estimates conform to defined cost/margin targets for the service/group
* Cost versus actual project costs are analysed and within defined tolerances
* Component/standard costs for services/products are established and subject to continuous review
* Effort for estimating identified, analysed and methods and targets established for reduction

Customer Focus
* Provide expert advice on bid teams as estimate manager
* Ensure provision of accurate and competitive, value for money estimates to the customer
* Expert advice for projects that have run into difficulty
Measures:
* Contribution to KPI 3a (Customer Survey Satisfaction rating)
* Bids won/bid conversion

Knowledge & Key Skills

Essential:
* Experience in the compilation of estimates for construction and mechanical/electrical installations

Desirable:
* Able to demonstrate a significant knowledge of modern security, mechanical, electrical and building technology
* Knowledge of Project Management methodologies (Prince, APM etc.)
* Knowledge of current IT estimating systems
* Membership of recognised relevant professional institution (RICS, CIOB etc.)

* Estimates reflect actual costs
* Up to date cost database
* Reduction in the effort required for estimating
* Improved customer satisfaction in the quality of estimates/bids
