Ericsson Session Border Gateway (SBG) is a high-performance product, based on blade technology. Optimized for multimedia and convergence of mobile and fixed services, SBG provides signalling and media control not only for regular telephony, but also HD voice, video and RCS services. Ericsson SBG is an integral part of the VoLTE offering, and the same node supports all types of accesses, including WiFi.

SBG ensures network security, topology hiding, quality of service, hosted NAT/FW traversal, address and port translation (NAPT), trans - coding and other critical functions for Real Time IP streams. It also supports encrypted media (secure RTP and MSRP) for unsecure access networks like WiFi. With its interactive connectivity establishment (ICE) it enables web communication for web clients that are behind NATs. SBG can be located either at network borders (N-SBG) or on the access side of the IMS Network (A-SBG).
