I am looking for an Epidemiologist (Epidemiological support scientist) for one of our government clients.

NOTE: AGRICULTURAL/FARMING KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE BACKGROUND. WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR LABORATORY-BASED EXPERIENCE BUT DESK-BOUND SCIENTIFIC EXPERIENCE.

APPLY SCIENTIFIC/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Applying technical knowledge
-Demonstrates technical ability in handling quantitative data eg. cleaning, validation and results reporting.
-Should have an interest epidemiology and veterinary public health
-IT skills must include competency with MS Word and Excel.
-The ability to conduct descriptive analysis is essential and basic statistics is highly desirable

Additional desirable experience includes the design of project documents (protocols, questionnaires, data collection forms and schedules), field-based sampling work, knowledge of GB livestock industries and some familiarity with MS Access, Stata and ArcGIS.

COMMUNICATING WITH IMPACT (GSE COMPETENCY)
The post holder must be able to speak confidently in meetings with colleagues and managers; with clear and structured written and verbal communication. They must be able to explain science meaningfully to colleagues and be able to write clearly and accurately for example in project reports, scientific papers and presentations. The post holder will need to contribute effectively to meetings; offering ideas and seeking advice from colleagues. Confident communication with the farming community will be required

- Experience of scientific report writing and excellent attention to detail in reports and communications to diverse audiences is essential
- Experience of communicating with the farming industry (eg recruitment letters, results for farming press) and private veterinarians is desirable
- Experience of writing peer-reviewed scientific publications would be beneficial

KEY TASKS AND DELIVERABLES

To contribute to profile of epidemiological research and surveillance projects in the fields of national and international veterinary public health within the Epidemiology workgroup at Weybridge. The post holder will deliver a range of tasks including: the design of project protocol documents, conducting appropriate descriptive analysis on large datasets, the production of progress & final reports for research projects, disease surveillance reports and publication of scientific findings
