Engineering Manager - Sensor Equipment

Our central government client is currently recruiting for a Engineering Manager. This is a 9 month contract based in Abbey Wood, Bristol.

The Systems Team is responsible for meeting the needs of its Capability and Front Line customers through the provision and support of equipment and systems fielded on a wide range of platforms. Within APS, the Identification Equipment Branch (IDENT) is the focal point for procuring and integrating Identification Equipment. IDENT also provides advice and guidance to platform project teams as they make acquisition decisions concerning identification equipment. Job Background This is a complex project covering a large number of diverse platform types in all three branches of Defence. These include ships, submarines, rotary wing, transport types and ground based ground based air defence systems and radars. The post holder shall support IDENT in the management of the procurement, integration, installation and support of IFF equipment in the land domain and the development and implementation of the systems engineering and interoperability strategies for the overall Mode 5 IFF project

Main Duties/Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the following activities.

Project management, including: planning, montitoring and control; the preparation of Business Cases and Investment Appraisals; risk management activities..
Evaluation of the technical compliance and feasibility of bids in response to the ongoing competition and management of assessment team scorers and assessors..
Liaison with Platform Teams and Subject Matter Experts in MOD and industry over the selection, evaluation, embodiment and support of Mode 5 on land environment platforms..
Management of the Mode 5 IFF Assessment Phase contractors to achieve value for money and ensure delivery within agreed performance, cost and time boundaries..
Support financial management of the Mode 5 budget and input to production of forecasts of outturn and other reports in respect of the systems engineering and ground based platforms activities..
Provision of accurate and timely reporting for Mode 5 systems engineering and ground based platforms activities.. Management of the Mode 5 IFF architecture framework..
Engagement with Defence Lines Of Development to ensure project dependencies, enablers, constraints and risks are properly identified and managed..
Management of the Mode 5 IFF systems engineering and ground based platform risks..
Provision accurate and timely reporting for the Mode 5 IFF project data pack with respect to activities.. Deputise for APS-IDENT3 as required.

Skills/Experience Required
Requirements
The post holder is required to be self-motivating and able to work independently with little direct oversight and only referring upward where necessary. It is essential that you can demonstrate excellence in planning and co-ordinating a portfolio of tasks and a proven track record in successful project. You will also need to be from a technical background along a route of senor type systems, such as radar and ideally from an electronic standpoint. The work will be focused on systems of systems approach, what the stakeholders required from that, briefing platforms team. Therefore knowledge of how IFF is used and systems of a systems approach is essential.

Additional Comments
It is highly desirable that you hold current SC clearance however you must be eligible to go through this level of clearance.
