Engineer - Visual Surveillance System

Senior engineer with experience of visual surveillance equipment required for defence company in Filton. Please note, the successful candidate will be required to gain SC Clearance prior to start

Purpose of role:
Contribute to the engineering design of Ship Visual Surveillance System (VSS).
Contribute to the integration of VSS within wider Combat System.

Key Technical Skills:
Experience of Visual Surveillance equipment in a Naval environment.
Good knowledge of Combat System interface requirements.
Knowledge of appropriate engineering development methodologies, strategies and toolsets.
Experience of Information Networks & Shared Infrastructure technologies.
Knowledge of software development and testing.

Key Outputs/Deliverables:
VSS architecture diagrams and design description
Technical Equipment Specifications.
Interface Specifications.
Visual Surveillance OPSTAT
Tender response scoring
Monthly contribution to C/S CAM review

Responsibilities

Major Tasks and Activities:
1. Lead development of Visual Surveillance System architecture, liaising with other Combat System leads and Approval Authority to ensure coherency across the Combat System and incorporation of customer requirements.

2. Develop and capture the physical and transverse suite of information for the VSS in the appropriate toolsets.

3. Engage with the Shared Infrastructure team and other stakeholders to ensure physical and functional interfaces are captured fully and agreed.

4. Liaison with interested parties (including Transverse Engineering team, SWSE, Naval architects, Ship service providers, Operabilities team etc) in the development of compartments with VSS equipment.

5. Provide technical input into procurement activities and assist with progressing VSS procurement.

6. Lead VSS into Combat System Visualisation & Experimentation initiatives including de-risking activities with Shared Computing Environment, Ships Network Infrastructure and Common Console.

7. Development of VSS test schedules.

Prior use of the Sharepoint and Windchill document management systems is desirable.
Understanding of the need to capture and maintain data generated for use by the project and the tools and techniques so used.
