Employment Lawyer

Background
Our client is currently recruiting for an Employment Lawyer for a 4 month contract based in Manchester.

The Employment Team provides the following legal services:
- Defending a range of employment tribunal claims brought against the department
- Assisting other lawyers and overseeing caseworkers in relation to employment tribunal litigation
- Advising policy and manager's advisory clients on often complex employment law issues including TUPE
- Working with clients to improve working practices
- You will be based in Manchester and will deal with wide ranging and often complex employment law issues arising in the litigation and advisory context. Experience of employment law work in the public sector would be an advantage.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
Employment Law. You will have the following main responsibilities:
- Holding a case load, and supervising caseworkers, in often complex and documents intensive employment tribunal claims.
- Assisting more junior lawyers in relation to employment litigation and advisory issues arising.
- Liaising with and advising a range of HR clients and other business stake-holders.
- Provision of training and development to lawyers and non-lawyers on various aspects of employment law.

Formal Qualifications Required
Qualified lawyer

Skills/Experience Required
- Excellent track record in employment law and litigation
- Significant experience of employment law in the public sector would be an advantage
- A proven track record of inspiring confidence in HR colleagues
- Excellent communications skills both oral and written
- Experience of dealing with clients at a distance could be a particular advantage
- An ability to work flexibly and to be responsive to the needs of clients
- An ability to assist in the training and development of colleagues who are less experienced in employment law
- You must be an enthusiastic 'team player' who can provide proactive, pragmatic advice
