Salary up to £43,000 Fixed Term

The successful post holder will be responsible for performing all aspects of the routine embryology service offered by the Fertility Unit. Routine laboratory administration will also be a requirement of the post holder.

In addition to this, the post will also require the successful candidate to participate in an on call system which is set up for the cryo alarm.

Duties and Responsibilities
•Preparation and attendance in theatre for egg collections, embryo transfers, intrauterine inseminations and for identification and grading of eggs.
•To prepare sperm from fresh or frozen semen for all IVF and ICSI treatments and intrauterine inseminations.
•Insemination of eggs, Embryo identifications, inspection and selection for transfer . Disposal of unsuitable embryos.
•To freeze semen samples when required.
•Embryo and/or tissue cryopreservation and storage, subsequent thawing and transfer.
•To adhere to strict quality control procedures in the laboratory, including regular monitoring of equipment and the environment and maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness.
•To maintain accurate and detailed records or all gametes and embryos in accordance with HFEA code of practice and local protocols.
•The post holder is responsible for the implementation of Health and Safety at Work regulations in all aspects of laboratory work.
•The post holder is responsible for ensuring safe and proper handling of gametes and embryos while in his/her care.
•The post holder will ensure the safety of cryopreserved sperm and embryos at all times by regularly checking levels of liquid nitrogen in the cryopreservation storage tank(s).
•The post holder will participate in the multi-disciplinary aspects of the team's work including taking telephone calls and enquiries.
•The post holder is required to attend all departmental meetings.

Skills & Experience
•BSc in Life Science
•Ace certified or in the final stages of certification
•The post holder must have at least 1 year of clinical ICSI experience
•Overseas embryologist must have at least 3 years embryology experience
•Excellent communication skills
•Working knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures and health and safety guidelines
•Computer literate
