ROLE: Embedded Software Engineer

My Client based in the Midlandshas a requirement for an embedded software engineer for an initial 3-6 month contract with a very specific set of skills.

Prime Overall Responsibilities:

To specify and develop the embedded software to drive a touch screen interface on a new desk top counting machine

Key Tasks:

1 - To work with the current software engineering resource to specify and develop the firmware for a PIC controlled colour TFT LCD display with touch screen application

2 - To contribute to the specification and design of the display and touch user interface designed for Worldwide multi language use.

3 - To integrate the front end GUI into the core communication modules developed by the internal resource

4 - To integrate with the internal resource during the contract such that the code can be maintained and built upon once the contract is finished.

5 - To provide testing resource for the product on an ongoing basis

Skills / Experience:

The ideal candidate must have significant proven experience of:

Designing and writing embedded C code on a PIC processor that drives a GUI on a TFT Display with touch screen for a desktop type product

Design of GUI's for 4-5 inch TFT Displays with touch screens

Creation and management of fonts and graphical objects in a PIC embedded environment, possibly with the Microchip Graphics Object Library.

Desirable Requirements:

Development of embedded USB and Ethernet in PIC environment
Embedded development in an 8051 environment
Development in a Windows C++, Visual Basic environments
Electronics Design / hardware understanding
Formal software design, documentation and system testing
