DNA SCIENTIST

We currently have a fantastic new requirement for a DNA SCIENTIST to work on an exciting new 14 month contract one of our leading clients based in KENT. Our client is wiling to pay up to £380 per day for this role. Applicants are required to hold a current SC CLEARANCE prior to commencing this role.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and review DNA analysis and associated bespoke reporting and briefs, across a range of formats. Assist with QA and QC relating to the use of DNA, liaising with other team and group members as appropriate. Provide advice to team and group members on the use of DNA profiling and associated techniques and procedures.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

- A solid and proven academic background in a scientific discipline (such as forensic science, chemistry or genetics) or equivalent experience in the field of DNA forensics
- Knowledge of present Forensic DNA STR profiling techniques and associated statistical evaluation.
- Knowledge of advanced DNA techniques
- The ability to understand and apply the principles of DNA forensics and genetics.
- The ability to understand, interpret and report the results derived from DNA analysis.
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, from across government, police and military
- Good organisational skills
- A clear communicator - both written and oral - with the proven ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Self motivated and able to work under own initiative
- Practical laboratory experience

DESIRABLE

- Proven track record of successfully working in the forensic science sector.
- Recent experience and knowledge of the current operational situation
- Experience of working with and/or in defence
- Experience of capability development and planning
- Experience of preparing evidence witness statements and providing expert testimony within a court environment

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Degree/post graduate qualifications in a scientific numerate discipline (such as forensic science, chemistry or genetics) or equivalent experience in the field of DNA forensics.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

- Proven ability to understand and apply the principles of DNA forensics and genetics.
- Proven ability to understand, interpret, report and review the results derived from DNA analysis. Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of present Forensic DNA STR profiling techniques and associated statistical evaluation.
- Self motivated and able to work under own initiative
- Proven track record of successfully working in the forensic science sector.
- Knowledge of the military/current operational situation
