DIVISIONAL DIRECTOR - PLANNING SERVICES, CHIEF PLANNING OFFICER

We have an exciting opportunity for a Divisional Director to join the Planning Services department within a local authority based in London.

The purpose of the role is to act as the Council's most senior professional Adviser in respect of the Planning Service, to facilitate the wide-ranging; spatial, economic, environmental and social; development and regeneration of the borough.

Key responsibilities of the Divisional Director will be to;

- Work proactively and positively with the Corporate Director, Place Shaping, and the Place Shaping senior management team to the establishment and successful management of the new Place Shaping Directorate
- Provide dynamic and innovative managerial leadership to the Planning Services Division
- Ensure the achievement of high levels of efficiency and value for money, together with effective and financial management
- Develop and maintain a learning culture, designed to encourage an effective contribution by all staff within the Place Shaping Directorate
- Ensure that policy, structures and processes, drive and influence effective decision-making, service delivery and improvement
- Develop and maintain a positive and effective interface between Council Members and Place Shaping staff
- Provide well-evidenced and sound advice directly to the Corporate Director, Place Shaping, Cabinet, relevant Portfolio Holders, Chairs of the Planning Committees and other Members of Council, and attend Planning Committees in particular, and relevant Panels, Cabinet and other Committees and events, as required
- Promote a positive image of the Council externally, and represent the Council at local and national levels, attending and presenting at such conferences, seminars, meetings and working parties, as may be required
- Represent the Council and/or the Corporate Director, Place Shaping in discussions with partner organisations and other stakeholders
- Deputise for the Corporate Director, Place Shaping as required

To be successful in this position, you will have the following;

- Substantial senior level experience, including management of Planning & Development Services
- providing and developing services in partnership with other organisations
- Working knowledge of relevant Health, Safety & Welfare legislation and approved Codes of Practice
- Knowledge of the modernisation and development agenda for Local Government
- Degree and relevant professional qualification in Planning or related subject
- Full Corporate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
- Intermediate level user of standard office PC applications
- Must hold driving licence valid for us in the UK
