Director of Construction

Our client, an international company advancing education for all - with students of all ages, from over 150 nationalities and stretching across 19 countries - from the Middle East, North America and Europe to Asia and Africa, is seeking a Director of Construction for a six month contract and ongoing for the right person.

THE ROLE

- This position is a professional management position, managing complex activities and processes that achieve the client's system-wide objectives.
- The position interacts regularly with the system CEO, COO, CFO, Chief Legal Officer, and diverse external contractors.
- This position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management, a minimum of 10 years leadership experience managing large complex construction projects.
- The role is suitable for candidates that have undertaken such roles previously and can demonstrate past successful delivery of large scale construction projects within multicultural environments.

PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES

- The Director directs the planning, development, and management of the organization's construction programme on a global scale but particularly over the EMEA region.
- Reports to the Chief Executive on matters in relation to the performance appointed third party contractors against contract requirements.
- Participates with the leads executive management team for the purpose of developing, implementing and evaluating construction/real estate-related strategies and initiatives.
- Provides the Board with advice and expertise on critical issues regarding all projects under the Directors domain.
- Plans coordinates and provides leadership in the execution of complex construction projects
- Develops and manages budgets within established parameters
- Leads on all construction aspects of the client's work, providing strategic and professional guidance to other managers and direct reports.
- Manages construction projects, in alignment with the organization's plans, assuring effective planning, development, and management of all construction activities.
- Builds an effective partnering culture with third party contractors to ensure collaborative effort is applied where appropriate.
- Ensures that Contractors and Technical Teams follow all agreed control procedures.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Must have achieved a degree level qualification
- Must have already done the job as a permanent employee
- Will have been responsible for the delivery of large construction projects, 30M $ and above
- EMEA experience preferred as the developments will involve different cultures and different appreciation of urgency and deadlines
- Will be experienced in the management of people and third party relationships, the team here is some 20 in number but can vary dependent on workload
- Must show energy, enthusiasm and drive, age is no barrier but a demonstrable level of positivity, innovative thinking and positive drive is absolutely vital.
- Possesses and engenders a strong team philosophy
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations
- Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of engineering
- Knowledge of design-build project delivery methodology
- Ability to delegate and manage multiple operations effectively
- Ability to assess the operational effectiveness of contractors
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical material accurately and effectively
- Ability to work with construction contractors, vendors, and consultants
- Demonstrated analytical skills
