Background

Our Central Government client is looking to take on a Digital Communications Manager to work a 2 month contract based in London.

You will work on campaigns that impact real people: business owners, employers, students and scientists, to name a few. We are advocates for 'digital by default': making our online presence useful, engaging and clear.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

Show experience of developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
Provide communications leadership and demonstrate a personal passion for digital
Show a strategic approach to digital outreach and engagement for communications campaigns, marketing projects, announcements and departmental communications - intervening early in projects where digital can add most value to campaign strategy or behaviour change
Demonstrate professional writing experience (producing clear, simple and jargon-free copy in plain English)
Assist with publishing of content
Help manage long-term relationships with online communities and influencers
Show experience of representing a brand online using social and digital channels and successful management of issues
Help moderate online discussion, answer questions and show the latest thinking in best practice in this area
Create effective digital content, working closely with the experts within the team as well as external suppliers
Evaluate the impact of digital outreach projects, communicate the results creatively and make recommendations for improvements

The individual needs to be able to network and influence at all levels and build and maintain relationships with external parties such as bloggers, community managers, journalists and influencers and stakeholders.

Skills/Experience Required

Essential:
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present their views effectively and confidently, a strong track record of achieving and evaluating results and of communicating high profile and complex messages.
Substantial experience of digital tools for work and personal use
Monitoring online media
Writing and editing for digital channels
Managing relationships with established online communities
Excellent relationship management skills
Up to date awareness of the government digital agenda and strategy
Previous experience working in journalism or in professional corporate communications, preferably as part of an internal communications team, press office or communications function, is essential

Desirable:
Experience of growing and developing new online communities
Experience of working with online media and forums in the business, education and innovation sectors

Formal Qualifications Required

Desirable:
Formal communications or journalism qualifications and/or professional communications memberships (eg CIPR, CIM) would be desirable but not essential.
