Devops Performance Architect - Banking Systems - Sydney CBD

THE COMPANY

Our client is one of Australia's leading and largest Financial Services Organizations that has expanded its operations beyond the Australian shores. The organization has a large range of financial offerings to both public and private clients across the retail, corporate and institutional banking areas. They have a very large technical footprint that combines a dynamic range of technologies in an ultimately complex landscape. Due to an expanding remit of this teams service offering to the bank they require a senior professional with a deep understanding of both the application development and operations worlds (read architecture) who can anticipate and mitigate performance related issues associated with projects that have enterprise wide impact.

THE TEAM

The performance team has a very large remit, to evaluate and improve bank wide systems with a focus on system high availability, performance, capacity and reliability. This team has been organically grown over the last 3 years and now, due to their excellent success record of improvements, they have been given a wider remit and larger projects. This senior role will be closely aligned to the Projects sub-team and will be responsible for assessing and analysing all project initiatives (change) in the pipeline across the bank, understanding each individually as well relationships between them all once implemented (these may not be obvious) so as to pre-empt any performance, resilience, high availability and capacity (demand management) issues.

THE ROLE

This is a senior role within the team that will literally bridge the gap between "Development" and "Operations" from a solutions perspective (ie DevOps Solutions Architect). When making large changes to a complex environment there are considerations to be made that transcend any one technology vertical or business unit (ie Developers may not have the visibility to understand the broader impact their directions/choices may have in other area's- Ops) so it will be your role to guide and correct to the extent of your expertise and if your instinct raises a red flag to consult an SME to ensure nothing is missed during the planning stage.

The ideal profile for this role would be an ex Developer who's moved to Operations (or vice versa), has expertise across system performance, high availability and capacity and is either now ready to step up to a Solutions Architecture role or has recently made this step. Whatever the make up of your career profile you will have a background working with mission critical systems and a demonstrated understanding of how the application layer relates to networking and infrastructure layers.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Expertise across Application Development and Operations Solutions (DevOps).
- A Strong Holistic Technical Background spanning a multiple disciplines eg Development, Networks, Infrastructure (Servers, Databases) and an understanding of how they all relate.
- Expertise across: System Performance, Resilience, High Availability and Capacity (Demand Management).
- Experience contributing to the design of robust solutions to future-proof complex technology systems.
- Experience evaluating and analysing large enterprise wide project initiatives and systems across multiple technologies and business units.
- Identify non-functional risks commensurate with project design and manage to or hand over for closure.
- Experience with large, complex web portals and/or Back End transactional systems
- Experience in Banking/Finance, Telco, Gaming, Media, High Frequency Trading, eBanking/eCommerce, and Distributed Systems an advantage.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; a passion and drive for technical excellence.
