Springer are looking for a talented software developer (Scala, Java or Ruby) with excellent coding skills, enthusiasm and ideas to join our agile development team in central London.

We are committed to creating innovative products with the latest technologies and are developing a new online platform based on Scala, XQuery, Java and Ruby. We use agile best practices including test driven development (TDD), pair programming and continuous delivery. Our platform can be found at link.springer.com, one of the top content websites in the world serving over 5 million page views a day to a global audience.

This is a great opportunity to cross train into Scala as training will be provided.

Skills and Requirements
Essential
* Commercial experience with Java or Ruby
* A desire to learn Scala
* Experience with both backend and frontend web development
* Exposure to agile methodologies
* Comfortable working with Linux
* An interest in keeping up to date with the latest technologies
* Degree in Computer Science (or related discipline) or equivalent

Desirable
* Fluency and commercial experience in Scala
* Understanding of functional programming techniques
* NoSQL exposure
* Experience developing RESTful APIs
* Involvement in open source projects
* Experience with XML related technologies such as XQuery, XPath and XSLT
* Experience with scaling and performance tuning web applications
