This is a contract (6 month) to perm position with a large oil and gas company.Overview
Our Client is seeking a Calgary-based Developer, responsible for designing application components and physical data structures based on business requirements and logical data models. This includes the design of application logic, hardware and software architecture, user interfaces, data interfaces, data conversion scripts, and reports.
This position will require occasional travel within Alberta.Role and Responsibilities
The Developer will have the opportunity to work closely with the Infrastructure Team (Server, Database, Storage, Network, Security, Desktop Deployment) while providing support to the applications under their responsibility.
Typical responsibilities will include the following: - Design application components to automate and streamline business processes and functions
- Design data conversion scripts to load data from external sources and correct data quality or integrity problems
- Develop estimates of effort for design of new, and/or modification to existing application components
- Develop and maintain technical specifications and documentation
- Troubleshoot and fix problems that occur in the everyday use of an application
- Communicate with Server, Database, Network, Storage and Security team when it relates to the application that they support
- Understand, create and modify application architecture diagrams for complex applications
- Coordinate and participate on the testing of applications during IS driven initiatives (Example: OS and Infrastructure upgrades).
Qualifications
Required Skills
- 3+ years of related industry experience with post-secondary degree in Computer Science or a related field of study
The role supporting our Client's Oil Sands Business Units will require familiarity with and understanding of:
- Working in a Programmer/Systems Analyst role, preferably in the oil and gas industry
- Business modelling, process modelling, data modelling, and effort/cost modelling and estimating
- Resources Coordination and/or Project Management experience in implementations/upgrades of third party and in-house applications
- Experience supporting engineering data and designer tools (Intergraph SmartPlant suite of applications, Microstation, etc) will be considered an asset.
The role supporting our Client's Business applications will require familiarity with and understanding of:
- N-tier application analysis, design and development
- The following tools: Oracle, PL*SQL, SQL Server, Visual Studio .NET, XML, XSLT, Java and JavaScript
- Support and deployment of Citrix based applications.
