Desktop Engineer - 2nd line support, Windows, hardware, MS Office

Capita, FTSE 100 and Leading Business Process Outsourcer, is seeking a Desktop Support Engineer for a 6 months fixed term contrtact in Southampton to provide 2nd level support for all Desktop equipment (hardware, firmware, software, data and voice, etc.) incidents and problems, ensuring KPI & PI targets are met and that these calls are resolved and documented.

Responsibilities include:

To diagnose and resolve Desktop IT incidents and problems via the telephone, remote diagnostic software, site visits or other means in accordance with their service standards and current working practices to ensure an efficient and responsive service to their customers so that KPI and PI performance targets are met.

To provide accurate and informative ICT advice and guidance to staff and customers to ensure that they are able to gain full benefit from the use and investment they make in IT systems and services. This may include involvement in workshop, drop-in sessions and presentations or training for staff or customers.

So seeking applicants with the following experience and skills:

Proven experience providing Desktop IT support for a networked, multiple location, business/organisation
Good 1st and 2nd line support experience

Demonstrable Knowledge and understanding of the following:

*Current Microsoft Office Software (2003/2007)
*Current Microsoft Windows Software (XP/Vista)
*Internet/Intranet Technology
*Desktop Hardware & Peripherals (PC/Laptop/Thin Client/Printers/PDA etc.)
*Telephony & Voice Systems including VOIP
*Network Hardware & Software (Microsoft, Novell, Cabling)
*Anti-Virus Software

Ideally an awareness of relevant Health & Safety legislation/good working practices: with particular awareness of electrical safety & manual handling
Analytic and creative approach to problem solving
Good Team Working and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritise
Knowledge and Understanding of the principles of customer care, preferably in an IT environment
Strong communication skills
To hold a full driving licence as there is travel throughout the city to visit customers at a range of locations. Note: A pool vehicle is available to the team.
