DESIGN ENGINEER - SC CLEARANCE

We currently have a requirement for a SC Cleared DESIGN ENGINEER to work in the area of GLOUCESTERSHIRE on a 3 - 6 months contract. The role boasts attractive rates of £30 per hour. The ideal candidate would already have a current SC clearance due to timescales and start dates of the role.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Support projects conducting design, development and prototyping of complex electro-mechanical systems for specialised precision engineering applications in line with all applicable legislation and company directives.

MAIN DUTIES OF THIS POSITION

- Generate innovative product design solutions to comply with the PDS and budgetary targets.
- Comprehensive experience designing and drafting using 3D and 2D CAD tools, Solidworks & AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of UK TEMPEST standards.
- Understanding of UK & US Military EMC and Environmental Test Standards, eg Mil Stan 810, 461, Def Stan 00-35 & Def Stan 59-411.
- Able to work with good attention to detail to produce concise design documentation and aiming for a "right first time" approach.
- Create, manage and publish design/project documentation & BOM's in accordance with company, customer and BS standards.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers, negotiate costs and materials, establish lead times and maintain quality standards.
- Perform detail analysis, calculations where required, ensure designs are compliant with specifications.
- Actively support and implement Drawing Office Procedures, maintain company Document Release and Engineering Change Request procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Degree qualified, preferably 2:1 or higher, in relevant engineering or design discipline.
- Strong understanding of modern design practices, manufacturing processes and their costs drivers.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of quality standards and systems to ISO 9001.
- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite in particular Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Powerpoint and Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics.
- Ability to supervise and work as part of a team or independently under minimum supervision.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THIS POSITION

- Ability to gain SC clearance.
- Full UK Driving license desirable.
