Design Engineer

Purpose of the role:
*To design & detail parts for the Wind tunnel model, facilities and race car instrumentation, primarily mechanical design, but could include surface modelling and aspects of the process.

Principal Accountabilities:

*Detail design of parts for the scale wind tunnel model technology development.
*Design of Aerodynamic instrumentation assemblies to fit to the race car.
*Design of jig and tooling components for manufacture and testing of components.
*Complete projects fit for purpose and to the satisfaction of the Team Leader, model shop & wind tunnel.
*Clearly understand the departmental procedures (inc. part nomenclature/APR issuing) and ensure these procedures are adhered to.
*Have a good working knowledge of general wind tunnel model construction.
*Answer feedback/faults from the wind tunnel and close out previous issues when designing upgrades to the model installation.
*Ensure the VPM tree/part naming & folder completion are to the satisfaction of the team leader.
*Complete good quality detail drawings that have all the required data for model shop preparation or external manufacture. (Hole details/aero surface/part mark/finish)
*Complete good assembly drawings which enable the model shop to prepare effectively and the tunnel to install and test efficiently.

Knowledge, skills & experience required:

*CAD experience CATIA V5. (Part design, surface design, draughting, assembly design)
*GD&T Geometric tolerances
*Database management VPM/3DCOM
*Relevant engineering based design work within Formula 1, automotive, aerospace industry.
*Degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Aeronautical engineering discipline.
*Mechatronics (electro-mechanical, control systems, mechanisms)
*Production techniques (Machining, Fabrication, casting)
*Kinematics (CATIA)
*FEA (CATIA)
*Rapid prototype materials, techniques.
*Basic PC skills (word, excel, outlook, Powerpoint)
*Excellent communication skills.
*Creative and thoughtful approach to solving engineering & CAD challenges.
