Design Engineer

A world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives is currently seeking a Design Engineer to lead design, development and validation efforts for engine installation and cooling systems on Tier 4 NPI programs, as well as support maintenance and CPI projects for current production machines in the Decatur, IL, area. This is a 1 year CONTRACT position, with the possibility of extension. Local candidates only, as there is no per diem available for this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Utilize ProE design tools to concept and design components and subsystems such as exhaust, air intake, engine accessory drive, emissions aftertreatment and cooling systems
- Close collaboration with other system team engineers, virtual analysis engineers, personnel in other functional areas, suppliers, and test personnel in a CPPD environment will be required in the development process
- Ensure that all required virtual analysis and machine tests are completed for validation of the designs. Virtual analysis includes inertial, modal and transient structural response analyses, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), bolted joint analysis, heat transfer and cooling system simulation
- Machine tests include shake table tests, machine cooling capability test, airflow test, water system tests, mounted equipment resonance test and On Machine Stress Analysis (OMSA)

REQUIREMENTS

- BS Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Agricultural Engineering
- 2+ years experience in machine cooling system and engine installation designs
- 2+ years in ProE design tools concepting and designing exhaust, air intake, engine accessory drive, emissions aftertreatment or cooling systems components and subsystems
