Design Assurance Engineer

The primary purpose of this role is to undertake design assurance activities (driven by requirements based engineering) on Projects, Bids and R&D to ensure that:

*The stakeholder requirements are fully understood (within the context of the train design),
*The train design is demonstrably compliant with contractual and legal requirements
*The train gains necessary authorization to operate in passenger service.

The role is to ensure that the train design is valid and verified and is demonstrated as such to achieve acceptance by the customer.

The role demands good practical knowledge of railway vehicle design, requirements engineering and validation, verification and testing and as such would suit a person with a knowledge of both the railway industry and System Engineering processes and techniques.

The role requires the ability to review and critique other engineers' work and ensure validation and verification reaches the necessary standard.

Key Accountabilities
List the 3-5 key accountabilities in order of importance and specify the approximate amount of time. eg 40%, 10% (related to the typical business cycle)

*Capture (and where necessary further develop) customer and regulatory requirements based on contractual and tender documentation
*Liaison with the engineering team to determine (and support development of) vehicle/system concepts for complying with the vehicle requirements
Cascading of requirements and verification activities to systems within the train (through RM tools such as DOORs)
*Manage production of conformance evidence necessary for demonstrating compliance with these requirements
*Stakeholder management

The Design Assurance Engineer is responsible for writing assessing, accepting vehicle and functional requirements.

The impact of an error is:
*Large delays in the acceptance and delivery of the product.
*Extensive and costly modifications to built products.
*Product Liability Claims for the client.
