Design and Modelling Engineer

Responsible for design work associated with wheels, brakes, hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical components for aerospace vehicles.

Takes on the role of Lead Design Engineer on a project

Plays a leading role in a MABS project team, providing technical guidance on all aspects of Mechanical Design activities

Interprets customer specifications and airworthiness requirements, ensuring they are embodied in design schemes

Oversees the development of design schemes and drawings

Technical approval of drawings and documents

Preparation of technical documentation including specifications, design documents, change notices, work instructions, technical reports and user guides

Undertakes the analytical work associated with a design scheme including calculations, fits and tolerance analyses

Prepares statements of work and work packages for external resource

Prepares test schedules, test instructions and test reports

Undertakes test work supervision and data analysis

May be required to prepare certification documentation

Carries out special projects as assigned

SKILLS NEEDED

Actively participates as a member of the Design and Modelling Department and programme development teams as required

Good planning, organisational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral and written communication skills

Demonstrates service excellence to both internal and external customers by focusing directly on the identification and satisfaction of their needs

Plans, organises and controls his/her activities to ensure on-time delivery and the quality of their output

May have technical accountability and responsibility for other Engineers

Participates directly in development programmes or functional initiatives

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

University degree in a relevant engineering discipline

Highly competent in the use of 3D CAD modelling packages

Competent in the design and modelling of complex assemblies

Competence in using PDM systems

Competence in drafting work

Competent in using Microsoft Office suite at intermediate level

Competence in applying analytical design techniques to Engineering problems

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Highly competent in using 3D CAD systems

Competent in designing and modelling complex assemblies

Competence in using PDM systems

Competence in drafting work

A clear understanding of GD&T

Good communication skills

Aerospace background preferred.
