Deputy Training Safety Officer (DTSO) - £390-410 p/d Ltd - 4 months min - Salisbury

Key tasks and deliverables:
The post of Deputy Training Safety Officer (DTSO) is responsible to the Training Safety Officer (TSO) for the safe, effective and efficient operation of all airspace associated with SPTA training areas and ranges and ensuring optimum use of military airspace by non-military users in accordance with the FUA Directive.

The post-holder will use his aeronautical experience to provide technical advice on flight safety and aeronautical matters as required, ensuring air safety at all times but enabling military aviation users to achieve optimum training benefit. The DTSO reports to the TSO Air Ops SPTA. It is desirable that the DTSO holds military or commercial pilot qualifications or military or commercial Air Traffic Control qualifications. DTSO is to be able to apply suitable techniques and methodologies to manage safety risks to levels that are ALARP and either broadly acceptable or tolerable. DTSO is to be able to make changes to existing procedures and contribute to new procedures necessary for the achievement of aviation safety.

DTSO is to be able to develop, deploy and review risk based estate asset management programmes to meet business and operational needs aligned with legislative and MOD policy requirements. Owing to the responsibilities involved and the expertise required, the posts are graded C2. Manage Air Safety over SPTA by ensuring that the correct procedures and practices are in place allowing military training involving air activity to be conducted in a safe environment.

Essential Experience:
Aviation background or ATC background highly wanted and is desirable that the DTSO holds military or commercial pilot qualifications or military or commercial Air Traffic Control qualifications.

Desirable Experience:
Confidence in speaking with pilots/flight deck using radios and radio language. MOD aviation. Pilot background, computer skills, good communicator, able to work well within a small team.
