Decom Field Engineer

THE ROLE

Our client requires a field engineer to recover telecommunication equipment from data centres as part of a global reverse logistics operation.

Applicants must be based in Amsterdam or live close to the City

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work and operate safely within high security data centres
- Identify, de-install, package, label and prepare parts for safe transport back to the reverse logistics warehouse
- Update warehouse management system with accurate data about the equipment recovered
- Coordinate courier collection of the recovered parts
- Identify and escalate any onsite issues promptly for resolution
- Investigate and understand the configurations of optical Router platforms and their component parts (including power and management parts)
- Carry out upgrades and part refurbishments including completion of all necessary documentation
- Provide a point of technical expertise to rest of the team on how to identify, safely handle and transport telecoms equipment
- Adhere to project processes and procedures
- Attend all team meetings - as required
- Adhere to all - aspects of health and safety in all working environments including safe handling of ESD sensitive components

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

- 2-3 years experience of installing and decommissioning telecommunication networks
- Experience of multi-vendor optical Router platforms
- Knowledge of onsite health and safety issues
- Used to booking and planning travel to data centre sites on a weekly basis
- Experience of reverse logistics a bonus
- Experience of inventory control and management systems (Highjump a bonus)

SKILLS

Excellent verbal and written communication in English

Excellent personal organisation and business administration skills

Computer literate, intermediate level Word/Excel/Mail (Google docs a bonus)

Attention to detail and ability to work with a high level of accuracy

Excellent problem solving skills

Ability to work under tight timescales whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality

Ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical people

Willingness to learn about new technology and help drive process improvement

Ability to work alone and as part of a team

OTHER

Ability to travel to abroad, offsite meetings and company related functions

Valid driver's license and minimum level of auto insurance coverage required
