Cobol DB2 Developer - Application Development Contractor

Job Description: My client, a Fortune 500 company, seeks an energetic problem solver with technical proficiency in the area of Cobol, DB2, analysis and design principles.  This applicant must be highly motivated to meet project deadlines and technology challenges. The technical developer will work directly with NS technical team to understand technical and data requirements.  The candidate will perform requirements, design, technical design, build, unit test, system test and support user acceptance test.  The candidate's primary responsibility will be to develop new applications while adhering to established change control policies and prescribed procedures.

Location: Midtown Atlanta
Education:  4-year College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

Responsibilities:
 Lead the conversion of multiple databases written in IDMS to DB2.
 Work with business owners to gather requirements, prepare functional specifications, form project plans and communicate progress throughout the software development life cycle.
 Work with the technical team lead to review, analyze and define requirements for development of the replacement application
 Analyze and design technical solutions for complex business requirements
 Has the ability to create efficient SQL queries and understands how to optimize them for performance.
 Identify and resolve programming problems by following routine methods and established system development methodologies

Skills:

Required:
 6-9 years of application development using DB2  3-5+ years of experience performing DB2 application functions
o build and maintain DDL to create database objects on TEST systems ; Tablespaces ; Tables ; Indexes; Triggers; Stored procedures; Image copies/reorgs if needed
 Knowledge of DB2 utilities, IBM DB2 Admin Tools and IBM DB2 Table Editor
 TSO ISPF
 Cobol
 MVS JCL
 Disciplined in the area of application change control using a Source Manager such as Changeman
 Extensive design experience
 Ability to produce high quality code for production use
 Knowledge of all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with solid teamwork ethic and customer focus.
 Experience with MS Office applications
 Must be independent and self-motivated, with a knack for taking the initiative, overcoming obstacles
 Strong understanding relational (conceptual, logical, physical) data models
