Currently seeking a Datacentre Engineer, to be based at my clients offices in Mitcheldean, Glos; on a contracting opportunity due to commence September 2015 and run until September 2016.

The client has advised that this is an immediate requirement and they will need contractors to start in the next 2 weeks.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

BRIEF ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Parent/Core Data Centre Programme Manager the Data Centre Engineer role is based out of Bristol to provide onsite engineering support for infrastructure, HW delivery Work-packages and IMACs on the ATLAS account into the 4 Core Infrastructure sites (All South West). The primary aspects of this role are the onsite support of installations, action and resolution of requests/faults that occur during the early life phase of project implementations. Host contractors and vendors that perform work in the Data Centres and ensure quality and standards compliance.

This role will require a significant amount of time to be spent on site performing tasks and resolving issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Moving and installing cabinets and relay racks.
- Monitor all DC resources (power, cooling and space).
- Host contractors and vendors that perform work in the Data Centres.
- Provide low level installation tasks as required (Hardware installs: power strips, rails, cable management etc ).
- Escalation of problems and issues to the Operations Team
- Assist in projects, this could include Installation, testing and labelling of cross connects in the Data Centre (CAT 5, coax etc ).
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the facility, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Must be willing to undertake security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a Data Centre or other applicable position preferred.
- Basic enterprise computer/server knowledge and experience.
- Basic knowledge of enterprise networked systems.
- PC literate with excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of health and safety aspects required in and around Data Centres
- Records and Audit trail behaviours

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

- Knowledge of high voltage filtered systems including UPS, PDU, transformer, etc
- Knowledge of generators and CRAC cooling systems.
- Knowledge of cable types, terminations and standards including fibre, coax, UTP and multicore
- Experience in working with permits and restricted access areas.
- Knowledge of Cisco networking platforms, HP, Fujitsu and DELL Blade chassis/Servers and of MS based operating systems would be useful, not essential.
