Database Services Manager - Contract

This role covers most of EMEA countries - 47. (some still in transition). Currently a total of 13 DBA's reporting in to the Database Services Manager. This number may increase over the medium term as more countries/applications transition and depending on the volume of work and skill required by those countries/apps.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:- 1. It is important that the replacement candidate has experienced background in DBA skill (in addition to the expected experience in Team Leading/ Management). Our environment in AIG is complex and vast covering many diverse applications and database versions and types.
2. Risk assessment/high profile issue management/problem solving is a key requirement for this role also as we are directly managing large volumes of live transactional data with large volumes of users. We must ensure that maximum service level is provided to our business users. Reaction and management of problems has to be quick and efficient so that production standards and availability are kept at the highest level.
3. Understanding of Audit (Sarbanes Oxley/Internal Audit/Database Audit) are key skill to this role also as we are the data guards of live environments and are therefore heavily monitored and audited throughout the year by different audit streams. There is a zero tolerance acceptance rule around breach of audit processes and procedures.
4. A high level understanding of database security/integrity/housekeeping/modelling/release management/performance and tuning/Monitoring are ALL key to this role to ensure strict adherence of all these areas is followed by the DBA's under the Database Services Manager.
5. Standard Team management including incoming task/work assignment distributed fairly and evenly across the team (pending skill requirement), vacation/leave planning, mgmt admin for the team, Rota mgmt, discipline/sensitive issue mgmt, reporting into Snr Mgmt, etc are all essential to this role also.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS (BENEFICIAL):- 1. Management of remote teams skill would be beneficial in this role as many DBA's are not co-located. ie It is a global team.
2. Knowledge of ITIL methodologies would be a beneficial skill also to assist moving forward with are structure in Production Support as a whole.
