Database Administrator - Senior

Our client is one of the world's leading financial services seeking a SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR with extensive experience including Unix Shell Scripting, database performance tuning, and PL/SQL coding

The main function of the Database Administrator is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Direct Programmers and Analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems
- Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions
- Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
- Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations
- Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems
- Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
- Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information

PRIMARY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- 8+ years hands-on experience with Oracle, with detailed understanding of internals
- GoldenGate replication required
- Experience with BACKUP/RECOVERY for Oracle databases required
- Experience with Oracle 11gR2, RAC, installation, performance tuning required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent
- Extremely honed problem-solving and debugging ability
- Proficiency in BASH Scripting required and one of Perl/Python/PHP a plus
- Familiarity with regular expressions for pattern matching and replacement a plus
- Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP concepts a plus
- Oracle Certifications valued but not required
- Understanding of Java, MySQL a plus
- Understanding of Hadoop and Map/Reduce concepts a plus
- Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to work independently and manage one's time
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software
- Strong knowledge of computer software, such as SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, etc.
