DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

SKILLS: Oracle 11g, PL/SQL, RAC data migrations, Database Administration

SUMMARY

This is a contract position with working for a premier University inside the perimeter. Needing a strong Oracle DBA to help with a RAC Implementation including backups and other processes to monitor systems as well as a few vendor product upgrades.  Some PL/SQL work with RAC data migrations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company database.
- Designs and implements data models and databases in accordance with user needs.
- Coordinates physical changes to databases.
- Creates and maintains database backup and recovery systems.
- Monitors database performance and performs any necessary tuning to maximize database performance.
- Serves as an organizational consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
- Resolves database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
- Oversees the security and recoverability of database data and the implementation and execution of preventative maintenance routines to ensure end-user availability and performance of database files and their related management systems.
- Is responsible for the structural integrity of databases, the structural design and implementation of in-house database files and related systems, and the development of system documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field and five years of database administration experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience with the development of application queries or stored procedures.
- Experience ensuring availability and performance of the databases
- Experience with proactive monitoring of database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime including space and resource management
- Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades
- Experience working with development teams on  implementation and release of database changes as submitted by development projects
- Monitoring Oracle RMAN backups
- Minimum 3 years of Oracle 10G DBA experience in production support on UNIX environments (Linux, HPUX, etc.)
- Minimum 3 years performing database installs, upgrades, patches, RMAN and troubleshooting connectivity issues
- 3 years Oracle PL/SQL and SQL experience
- Experience working in a team that delivers a high availability service
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases
- Database modelling with a recent modelling tool
- Additional Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in Shell Scripting (ksh, bsh, tcsh, sh, etc.)
- Experience in supporting Oracle RAC & ASM Technologies
- Oracle partitioning
- Oracle 11g DBA experience
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 DBA experience
- MySQL 5.0 DBA experience
