Database Administrator

There are over 1.9 million merchants selling on our client's international marketplaces. Collectively, these merchants are responsible for selling about 1/3 of all items ordered from the company worldwide. The revenue and free cash flow generated by the business is at the same proportions. The business continues to grow at a high rate year-over-year and there are several initiatives that will continue to drive this trend.

Technology and self-service automation are cornerstones for this growth. To achieve this, the correct database infrastructure and architecture is an increasingly critical part of enabling the business to move fast and scale while maintaining customer trust. Over 90% (over 160 instances support 50+ services and application) of the databases support OLTP operations and receive millions of requests per week. Immediate openings are available for talented and driven DBAs that have a good combination of operational, Scripting and architectural knowledge. Our client's databases are generally large-scale systems that can range in the terabytes. The challenge is to ensure that all of this data is always available and find new ways to continuously increase availability while considering total cost of ownership and operational overhead.

The DBA team owns the creating, on-going management, monitoring/alarms, and the overall persistence architecture of the database fleet that supports the business.

EXAMPLES OF DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

- 24x7 operations of fast-paced complex distributed database environments supporting primarily OLTP and few Datawarehouse environments
- Performance tuning of queries and overall database resources
- Design, review and implement schema designs for new applications and services
- Drive the software engineering teams to build services that use databases properly
- Partner to re-architecture existing system to use the database more efficiently

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 6+ years of Oracle DBA experience on Unix/Linux
- Working knowledge of one of Scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl)
- Experience with Oracle 11 Unix/Linux
- Experience in data guard, data replication, application scalability and high-availability architecture
- Working knowledge of DBA best practices (eg, schema management, index optimization, OS-level tuning, Network management, etc.)
- Query and database tuning skills
- Experience in a 24X7 production environment
- Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
- Experience with terabyte databases
- Experience with high-volume OLTP database systems
- UNIX Shell Scripting, PLSQL, and SQL skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA and application teams
