Data Scientist - Contract

A top global anti-virus and Internet security company is currently seeking an interim Data Scientist to join their Innovation Team in Amsterdam, Netherlands immediately. They are seeking a Specialist who can complement the team with his/her deep knowledge of Data Mining. The company deploys Big Data solutions to target their users, and the innovation team researches and prototypes new ways of using Big Data for better monetization of their user base. AVG looking for someone dynamic, committed and quick-thinking who can apply their experience to adding value to this high performing team.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO:

- Work in a cross-functional team to identify data mining opportunities. Define opportunities together with product managers and implement solutions in cooperation with software engineers
- Help to identify data needs
- Research and build models, such as recommender systems, to monetize users
- Work with a state of the art CLOUD data center, infrastructure and Hadoop clusters
- Keep up to date with the latest data mining research and development

APPLICANTS SHOULD PRESENT THE FOLLOWING ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE:

- Broad knowledge of existing data mining algorithms and creativity to invent and customize your own when needed
- Experience with recommender systems for marketing purposes
- Experience with data quality and fit-for-purpose assessment
- Ability to work with software developers to implement your solutions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - the ability to speak to counterparts in IT and Business and translate requirements
- Either: Ph.D. in Data Mining, Machine Learning, Statistics OR M.S. in related field with 5+ years' experience applying data mining techniques to real problems

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS:

- Data Mining, Algorithm Development, Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Predictive Modeling, Recommender Systems
- Experience with PREDICTIVE MODELLING & ANALYSIS
- Experience with Big Data tools including Hadoop and R
