Data Manager (DBA - SQL Server)

Database Administrator (DBA) for a health research database using Microsoft SQL Server and other Microsoft products. Must be prepared to work abroad (Doha, Qatar) as the default work location (all expenses paid). Must be educated to degree level in a relevant area or have equivalent experience.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE
- Demonstrable success in working for a complex organisation including experience in: data management/protocol/policy development and implementation;
- Experience in handling large quantities of data;
- Significant experience of data linkage and analysis;
- Strong skills in the use of Datamodelling tools, data access tools and software;
- Relevant track record in ensuring data security (including sensitive personal data) and integrity;
- Knowledge and experience of good industry practice in relation to database administration;
- Experience of working within ISO9001 and ISO27001 environments.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

- Knowledge and experience of a DBMS other than SQL Server;
- Knowledge of laboratory or clinical systems and data management within a clinical or health environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Main duties will include:

- Database Administration (DBA) including:
- database tuning;
- filestore management;
- housekeeping and routine processing (eg run report programs);
- backup and restore processes;
- maintain full documentation for all data within the organisation's system(s); and
- maintain data quality.
- Data Security and Privacy including:
- maintain good industry practice;
- exploit SQL Server specific security technologies; and
- maintain SQL Server  data encryption.
- Database-specific (SQL Server) Development including:
- stored procedures;
- report programmes;  and
- data extract, transform and load processes.
- Datamodelling including:
- developing efficient  and effective logical and physical data models;
- enhance (including simplify) existing database structure for improved performance etc. (as necessary);  and
- extend existing database structure to implement new business functionality (as necessary).
- Application Development - participate (as DBA) in development process for changes and enhancements including:
- specification;
- design;
- development;
- testing; and
- implementation.
- Application Maintenance and Support - participate (as DBA) in second/third line support (incident investigation and resolution).

General duties will include:

- Participate proactively in the continuous improvement of the organisation's system(s) and associated services;
- Develop effective, robust and appropriately documented operating procedures (automated where appropriate);
- Contribute to the smooth handover of the IT systems and procedures to subsequent provider(s) as and when required;
