DATA CENTRE ENGINEER

Our client a leading online sports betting and gaming operator is seeking an experienced DATA CENTRE ENGINEER to join their team. Candidates must have a flexible attitude to working hours and be ready and available to travel to support remote locations.

You will demonstrate a good and knowledge of relevant industry hardware, while demonstrating a positive attitude in your passion for the role and day to day job. You will be expected to bring good technical and problem solving skills to the role, and be capable of solving technical issues, often involving outside vendors and diverse internal teams.

DATA CENTRE ENGINEER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- To provide local technical support for IT Support and Technology teams 24 x 7 to ensure the rapid resolution of all Data Centre related service issues. This may include rebooting systems, replacing failed/failing components and troubleshoot Servers.
- To provide local hands-and-eyes support for customers 24 x 7 directly or through third parties.
- Supervise and provide technical assistance to customers and suppliers working within the Data Centre.
- Support and maintain our clients ISO27001, PCI and various standards of operations.
- Strict adherence to all IT standards, policies, processes and change control procedures
- To manage ticket queues and action within agreed SLA's.
- As part of the team drive performance of all third parties that support the Data Centre Operations.
- Assemble and test server systems and networking hardware from components supplied by vendors, such as CPU modules, chassis and motherboard units, power supplies and interface cards.
- Support Data Centre Manager to ensure proactive management of all Data Centre infrastructure in order to prevent failures.
- Perform the tasks necessary to support the provision of Data backup and recovery services including media rotation and storage.
- Strict adherence to Datacentre installation procedure.
- Support the Data Centre Management team to ensure that the Data Centre 'live floor' accurately reflects the information held in inventories and DCIM tools.
- Ability to work closely with Data Centre Management, Project Managers and key stakeholders.
- Support of Level 1 configuration of networking devices and server applications.
- Assist in operational running of Data Centre and maintaining Data Centre standards. Assist in Data Centre Maintenance tasks, including audits.
- Provide single point of contact for all infrastructure requirements.
- Provide post-implementation support service in order to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Support Data Centre Management in planning efficient use of Data Centre space & capacity.
- Perform component hardware upgrades within systems and networking hardware.

DATA CENTRE ENGINEER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Experience of 24x7 Data Centre/IT Operations in geographically diverse Data Centres ideally in an E-commerce, gaming, telco or banking environment requiring 100% uptime within highly resilient solutions.
- Proven experience of Installing computer hardware, preferably on both PC and enterprise platforms. (Knowledge of Dell, HP, Arista, Cisco, NetApp and PureStorage hardware)
- Can show knowledge (at a foundation level) of some or all of following:
- Operating systems, eg UNIX, Linux, Windows, etc.
- Networking technologies, eg Routers, Switches, load balancers, Firewall, etc.
- Backup and recovery
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical infrastructure/technologies that support Data Centres.(Generation, Switchgear, UPS, PDUs, CRAC units)
- Understanding of tools/systems used to manage Data Centres. (Security, BMS, Fire Protection, rack management, capacity management)
- Understanding of Internet and Network Protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, load balancing MCP or relevant experience.
- Build and/or installation of routing and switching hardware.
- Experience of working with UTP and fibre cabling, including termination.
- Experience of working in an international team environment with IT Infrastructure.
- Have detailed experience of managing external suppliers.
- Systematic approach to high quality installation work.
- Methodical approach to maintaining and developing documentation.
- Practical experience of change management procedures.
- A passion and love for sports is an added advantage
- Experience with server, storage, hypervisor and VM provisioning is desirable but not essential
- Dell, HP server specific qualifications are also desirable but not essential
