Data Center Technician needed in Plano, TX

8+ Month Long Contract

Data Center Operations Tech

Position Overview:
Provide on-site Data Center technical support performing but not limited to network and system troubleshooting, hardware upgrades and installations, swapping hardware components, cable testing and troubleshooting for a large number of CISCO, EMC, IBM, HP, and DELL network and system devices. Liaise with local and global client support teams ensuring that work is performed within SLA timeframes. Adhere to proper change control and incident management policies and procedures and ensure that ticketing and asset databases are updated accordingly.

Essential Responsibilities:
Monitor and respond to change control and incident management ticketing system requests in a timely manner. Perform power cycles, physical equipment and cabling inspections, swap out failed components, testing of copper and fiber cables, handle storage media, enter troubleshooting commands as directed by business support teams. Perform new installations racking and stacking, cable pulls, and cable testing. Perform ad hoc requests as direct by on-site management. Update shift log with any and all activities pertaining to workflow at the site. Create work instructions for tasks not normally covered for Site Knowledge Management. Shift work, and/or on-call is required as the facility is supported 24 x 7 x 365.

Required Skills:
5+ years experience in networking and hardware support and troubleshooting in a mission critical data center environment. Strong background in network troubleshooting. Strong background in Hardware and OS troubleshooting and configuration. Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a part of a larger team. Able to multi-task in high pressure situations and take 'ownership' of projects/tasks from planning, deployment to post-deployment support.

Desired Skills and Education:
ITIL v3 Foundation Level Certification a plus. CCNA certification a plus, A+ certification a plus. An Associate or Bachelor degree from a technical institution preferred.

HOURS:

Candidates on this role will work 12 hours shifts - 4 months on 6am-6:30pm CST then rotating to 4 months on 6pm-6:30am CST shifts. The candidate will work rotating days each week - Monday and Tuesday on, Wednesday and Thursday off, Friday, Saturday and Sunday on. Switching the next week to have Monday and Tuesday off, Tuesday and Thursday on, Friday, Saturday, Sunday off.
