CREDIT RISK ASSOCIATE (LOANS AND DERIVATIVES)

DEPARTMENT PROFILE

The cornerstone of the risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects the Firm's capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties.

Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

-To analyse counterparties, identify and quantify risk drivers in transaction structures, prepare credit memos, make recommendations and manage counterparty exposure.
-Analyse and prepare credit memos for corporates with the aim to recommend accurate credit risk ratings and approve exposures
-Analyse credit risks in loans and derivative trades for transaction approval and counterparty portfolio assessment
-Analyse economic and market events and their impact on the portfolio of counterparties managed
-Liaise with clients, internal business units on credit approvals, credit requirements and relationship matters
-Follow up on transaction execution. Ensure loans/trades are properly booked/recorded/monitored, credit terms are incorporated in termsheets/confirmations and underlying documentation properly developed
-Manage counterparty limits and credit facilities exposures
-Follow up on timely receipt of financial information from all clients and prepare credit memos according to firm policy requirements
-Ensure risk reporting systems contain timely and accurate information

-Quality of credit analysis and decisions
-Timeliness and efficiency of work performed
-Comments and feedback from colleagues (CRM and other divisions) and clients

SKILLS REQUIRED:

-Proven experience in credit analysis
-Familiar with financial markets, financing and risk mitigating structures
-Product knowledge eg leveraged loans, swaps, FX, equities
-Familiarity with legal documentation and risk issues, including LMA loan documentations, ISDAs, CSAs, netting, and credit mitigating features
-Extensive working knowledge of computer applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
-Fluency in English plus one European language would be an advantage
-Good communication skills with strong oral & written skills, including concise report writing
-Strong analytical skills
-Independent decision-maker with ability to support conclusions
-Team oriented, flexible, diligent, and self-motivated
-Ability to work effectively with wide range of cultures/personal styles
-Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
